ABSTRACT
Many investigations regarding various extraction methods of dayak onion bulbs (Eleutherine americana. Merr) in rendement values and TLC profiles have been reported. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of various extraction methods of dayak onion bulbs’s in rendement values and TLC profiles. Dayak onion tubers were extracted using various solvents such as n-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol, and methanol. Each mixture of sample and solvents was treated with different extraction methods, using maceration, reflux, and sokhlet. The rendement values for each extraction method of maceration, reflux and soxhlet using methanolic extract were 8.027%, 6.943%, and 10.694% respectively. the rendement values of maceration method for each solvent of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol and methanol were 1.572%, 2.141%, 3.537% and 1.999% respectively. Soxhlet method using n-hexane, ethyl-acetate, ethanol and methanol solvents yielded the rendement values those were 2.146%, 1.681% , 3.974% , and 2.682%, respectively. Whereas the rendement values using reflux method for the solvents of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol and methanol were 1.251%, 0.966%, 3.280% and 2.553%, respectively. Meanwhile. the determination of TLC profiles was evaluated by the differences of polarity level of eluents, those were n-hexane extract (soxhlet, maceration, and reflux) using eluent n-hexane : ethyl acetate ratio (3 : 1), ethyl acetate extract (soxhlet, maceration, and reflux) using eluent of n-hexane eluent : ethyl acetate ratio ( 2 : 1), ethanol extract (sokhlet, maceration, and reflux) using eluent of chloroform : methanol ratio (7 : 1), methanol extract (sokhlet, maceration, and reflux) using eluent of chloroform : methanol ratio (2 : 1). Methanol extract (sokhlet, maceration, and reflux) using two eluent combinations, namely n-hexane : ethyl acetate (2 : 1) and chloroform : methanol (5 : 1). In addition, the pyhtochemical screenings of methanol extract showed steroid compounds, flavonoids and terpenoids.
